The children are our future

Ray Parry Playground Services Limited picture

In October 2007 Ray Parry Playground Services ltd was invited to enter preliminary discussions with Hope House Hospice in Oswestry for the complete refurbishment of the play area for children and their family and friends who regularly visit the children of the Hospice.

During the past ten years of functioning and prior to the building of this wonderful children’s hospice our family have always supported the charity in many fundraising activities.
Our initial brief was to come up with a full design and build format based on clearing the existing site and starting with a blank canvas. It was also disclosed that we were one of four companies on the select list of tenders.
As a fully independent Playground provider we immediately realized the opportunity to design an area based on equipment from several well-respected Manufacturers
We knew that it would need to be accessed by children in both manual and powered wheelchairs and that they would always be accompanied by carers who would need access to all the equipment.
Further consideration to an outside type classroom where children and carers could sit and oversee the playground would be a valued asset to the area.
We also realised that the play area would be a valued asset to able-bodied children visiting their loved ones and also using the equipment in an integrated way.
After a valued brain storming session with members of staff as to their vision of the new provision it was decided to draw up a wish list of ideas that could be incorporated into their budget and area available consisting of:

  • Fully Inclusive Roundabout, Wheelchair and Flat Seat Swings
  • Multi Unit with Wheelchair Access
  • Spring Riders
  • Ball Play Provision
  • Musical and Sensory Items
  • Talk Tubes
  • Seating
  • Outdoor Shelter/Classroom
  • Coloured Wet Pour Safer Surfacing
  • Access Paths

We designed a proposal, which would fulfill all the requirements, and be a valued asset to the Hospice and together with an itemized quotation submitted it for consideration.
In December 2007 we were delighted with the news that we had won the tender for the contract and work could commence in March 2008.
We successfully completed the contract by May 2008 in time for the opening of the summer months.

A few words from Mr. Graham Lacey projects manager Hope House Children’s Hospice:-

“The job was conducted from the first consultation through to completion in a very professional way and communications with Ray Parry and ourselves proved excellent.
“We have had excellent feed back from users and staff and the playground is now a major part of our Hospice.
“We were more than happy with the products and Ray Parry listened to what we requested and produced a plan, which incorporated all our requests and more.
“The installation team were excellent and nothing was too much trouble and in conjunction with Ray their aim was to ensure complete customer satisfaction.
“We would like to thank the entire team for their excellent completion and would not hesitate to write a reference for future customers of Ray Parry.
